On Target

When the Target/Chip Ganassi team closed their 1995 season last year at Laguna Seca Raceway, perhaps few realized the significance in which owner Chip Ganassi would restructure his then semi-successful Target operation, reface it for the 1996 PPG Cup and actively pursue its title the next season.

It was not that the well-funded Target organization required a complete reform. And perhaps it was not that Ganassi held the knowledge which to judge the coming season's selection of engines, chassis' and tires. Likely it was more the cooperation of both, Ganassi's interpretation of technical and team decisions, and simply, choosing the technical package that he believed correct for the 1996 PPG Cup.
